I have the great pleasure to announce that the Bellydance Superstars have selected me to sponsor them for the Indiana show for their Fall 2011 tour!  They are doing a different kind of format where they partner up with a local sponsor who puts together a 45 minute set for their show, then they do the second 45 minute set.  I will be partnering up with Mohamed Shahin again for our Mosaic IV, and we will be doing his choreographies!  Also, Leila Gamal and Salaam will be involved.  This is the dream of a lifetime, and will also be a part of my Master’s Thesis Project in Ethnomusicology at IU, of which I will be graduating in May 2012.

The date will be sometime in October, between the 1st and the 12th.  Once it is confirmed, I will have the posters, fliers and registration forms available!  Stay tuned!!

I am sponsoring Leila Gamal of South Bend, IN for two workshops on Classic Oriental Dance, October 17th in Bloomington, IN!  Both workshops will take place at Windfall Dance Studio, 1101 N. Dunn St.

Leila Gamal is an International Raqs Sharqi performer and instructor of over 30 years.  Known for her emotive, soft and feminine style, she is the quintessential Classic Oriental Dancer.  A dancer’s dancer, she began performing with some of the best live Arabic music in Chicago, Detroit, New York and Miami. Her mentor was the legendary Ibrahim “Bobby” Farrah of NYC.  Now Leila is a much sought after instructor who is known for her kind, gentle, yet effective teaching, and her musicality which inspires dancers all over the world.  Don’t miss out on this phenomenal master instructor!!!

12-2pm:  Classic Oriental Dance; this is the classic form of Raqs Sharqi, or “bellydance”.  Leila’s style is based in Egyptian and Lebanese, but she adds her American nuances to make it her own style.  The class focuses on technique and combinations for use in improvisation, and little choreography will be used.  Please bring a 3 yd silk veil.  For beginner-advanced levels.

3:30-5:30pm:  Oriental Fusion with Fanveil; this class will use traditional music, but adding the fanveil and making it modern!  Class will be improvisation based, but some choreography may be used.  Please bring two long fanveils. For intermediate to advanced levels.

Please email katya, katya@katyafaris.com, and download the registration flyer by going to the link below:
